Classical Japanese sword training in Tulsa, OK

Iaido is the traditional Japanese art of drawing the sword and cutting in a single movement. Students generally practice solo forms, which begin with the sword in the sheath and consist of the drawing of the sword in response to imaginary attacker(s), continuing with actions appropriate to the prescribed scenario, and concluding with the "cleaning" and re-sheathing of the sword.

Iaido is one of Japan’s oldest koryu (old school) martial arts. The lineage of Iaido that we practice is Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu (MJER), which was founded about 450 years ago.

Our Lineage

We are affiliated with the main-line lineage of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido, known as the Seitokai, which is headed by the 23rd consecutive headmaster, or soke, Fukui Masataka Masato Sensei. Fukui Sensei is also the President of the Zen Nippon Iaido Renmei (ZNIR), the all-Japan Iaido Federation.

Our affiliation with the Seitokai is through John Ray Sensei, hanshi kyudan (9th dan master teacher license), and Tanida Hiroshi Sensei, hanshi judan (10th dan master teacher license). Ray Sensei heads The Dojo in Denton, TX, and Tanida Sensei heads the Tendai Dojo in Chiba City, Japan.

We are part of the Beikoku Tendai Iaido Kai (BTIK), a network of US MJER dojo all of whom are connected with John Ray Sensei.

Our Kancho (dojo head) is Chris Guzik, kyoshi nanadan (7th dan teacher license). Chris is a direct student of John Ray Sensei and has been training in iai since August, 2004.
